The National Aids Commission (NAC) has pumped K10 million (about $25 000) into the newly formed Malawi Defence Force Spouses and Association (MDFSA)to assist in youth social behaviour change communication programmes.

NAC director of programmes Tione Chilambe disclosed the amount during the official launch of MDFSA on Saturday in Lilongwe where guest of honour was MDF Commander General Henry Odillo

“For starters, we have given them K10m for them to roll out their programmes. As NAC, we are pleased with the initiative taken by the MDF women. Aids fight should not be left to men alone, but women too should be at the forefront,” said Chilambe.

Chilambe said her office will continue to lobby other donors to help MDFSA achieve its goals of fighting Aids

MDFSA, which is headed by Gladys Odillo [wife to Commander General] has mobilised women within the MDF to take an active part in the fight against HIV and Aids to prevent further spread of HIV infection and mitigating the impact on the socio-economic status of spouses and youths.

In his remarks, Odillo thanked NAC for the support towards MDF women.

“We appreciate your technical and financial support to our institution through our HIV and Aids programmes. The fact that you have gone further to support this initiative by our women in mitigating the pandemic shows your deep commitment,” said Odillo.

He added the formation of MDFSA as great approach in arresting Aids.
